About us
Established in 1973, the Rooty Hill Chess club meets on Tuesday nights at 7.15 pm at Rooty Hill RSL (West HQ). Visitors and new members are always welcome and can expect a friendly reception.
Whatever your playing strength, you can always find somebody who enjoys playing a game at your particular level. Our club has various members ranging from young to retirees. Chess sets and the latest digital chess clocks are provided by the club.
You are welcome to play in our tournaments as a non-member by registering through our website. If you decide to become a member, the fee is $35 p.a., $25 p.a. if you have a concession card and $20 for juniors, which entitles you to a discount for future tournaments.
All Chess Club Members also need to be Members of West HQ.
For an additional fee of $20, the club will pay your membership to the NSW Chess Association.
During the year, the club hosts four annual Classical Tournaments. The Autumn and Winter Swiss, the Rooty Hill FIDE Open and the Club Championships (restricted to club members only).
On the nights when there are no Classical tournaments, we host a variety of other chess events with various time controls, such as Allegro (15 min), Blitz (10 min) and of course, the popular Lightning tournaments, where players only have five minutes each to complete the game.
