FIDE Standard and ACF Normal Rated Chess Tournament
Division A: 10 Player Round Robin
Division B & C: 16 Player Swiss
Division D: Remaining Players Swiss

Divisions:
The organiser will sort divisions based on ACF and FIDE ratings before the start of the event.
You will be notified of your division on Saturday before the start of the tournament in the draw.
If you believe you may be rated high enough to play in Division A, please ensure you are free for all nine weeks. Otherwise, please let the organisers know so you can be allocated to a division that is not the Round Robin.

Time Control:
90 minutes + 30 seconds per move, per player.

Entry Fees:
$20 for All Members

Entries close Friday, 6th June 2025. Late entries incur a $10 late fee for all players.

Dates:
Refer to Full Club Calender.

Clocks start at 7:15 pm sharp each Tuesday.

Default Time: After 30 minutes of the round start time.
The arbiter has the right to modify the pairings if there are no-shows on the night of the draw.
You will be withdrawn from the tournament if you are not present by the default time without a valid reason. You must pay a $10 penalty fee to be included back in the draw.

Byes:
If you cannot attend a game, you must submit a bye request using the following form.
ONLY BYE REQUESTS RECEIVED VIA THE FORM WILL BE CONSIDERED AS VALID. An email will be considered supplementary, but you MUST submit a request through the form.

Terms and Conditions

  • All bye requests must be communicated before the Saturday of next Round.
  • Any players who do not turn up to their game or inform the arbiter prior at byes@rootyhillchessclub.org will automatically be withdrawn from the tournament and not paired in future rounds. Players who wish to continue playing must pay a $10 non-refundable fee.
  • The draw published on Saturday/Sunday will be provisional, and any changes will be notified on the night of the round.
  • Any player who arrives at the chessboard more than 30 minutes after the start of the session shall lose the game unless the arbiter decides otherwise.
  • If you are running late, please email byes@rootyhillchessclub.org as soon as possible. There is limited to no signal at the club, so we will unlikely receive your message or call.
  • No analysis at the board is permitted.
  • If your opponent does not arrive, the organisers will repair you with another player or allocate a bye.
  • We cannot cater for every contingency but will attempt to be as flexible as possible.

Bye conditions for each division:

Division A:
No half-point byes will be given as it is a round-robin. Please ensure you can commit to all nine weeks of the event before entering to minimise forfeits. However, it is acceptable if you have to forfeit a game due to unforeseen circumstances.

Division B/C/D/E:
Players are permitted a maximum TWO half-point byes, except in Rounds 8 and 9. All bye requests must be communicated before Saturday of the next round. Requests made after the deadline will be given as zero point byes.
